I also am experiencing some other issues with BMT that you will read more about in the TV Show section. I am generally accustomed to metadata programs working fairly smoothly out of the box (metabrowser, Collection Management, YANFOE, etc…) so I did find myself getting frustrated with BMT. I ended up having to remove my sources and the re-add/re-scan to clean up a bunch of issues. I think it is mostly due to the limitations of having a web based UI, but I found it a bit of a PITA to navigate around, changes made would not stick after saving, and dummy files were picked up as movies. However, I will admit that I am not the hugest fan of BMT. As opposed to previous versions of BMT that I had tested out a while back the latest version has greatly improved. With BMT you can have it running in the background so as new media is added it will scan and add all the appropriate metadata/fanart without user intervention. Below is a screenshot of some of my Movies, and then TV Shows Once the library scan is complete you can check out the results by clicking on the Browse option on the top toolbar. If you are unsure if a library scan is running click on “Status” which will let you know, as well as provide some other information If not simply click “Refresh Library” at the top of the screen. With every set up a library scan should have started. You can do this under Configure -> Phoenix -> Fanart/Metadata Options Next step is to point BMT to where it should store the SageTV Fanart (SageTV uses a central folder for Fanart, as opposed to MyMovies or others where fanart is stored with the individual movies/TV shows). The first thing you will want to do is tell BMT where your video sources are, which can be done under Configure -> Sage Sources To manage you can access the web UI, which is located under (so for me since BMT is installed on your Windows Home Server my link is When you load the page you will be prompted for a username and password, I believe the default username/password is sage/frey. BMT is responsible for gathering all metadata/art for your media library.

With SageTV 6 you needed to have a manual in front of you to install any plugins. This is where SageTV 7 has made great leaps from SageTV 6.

UPDATE - if you install the Batch Metadata Tools plugin it will install Phoenix Core Services as well, so this will save a step (thanks for the heads up Stuckless). With the latest SageTV 7 beta installed, head over to the Plugins section (Setup -> SageTV Plugins -> All Available Plugins) and under “General” install Phoenix Core Services, and Batch Metadata Tools – Web Interface (each install will require a restart of SageTV). Prior to beginning make sure that SageTV 7 is running as a service: Optional – 3rd party metadata provider (such as metabrowser or mymovies) for using alternative posters/backgrounds.Diamond for Default SageTV7 STV (version 3.00 Beta, found in the Plugins section of SageTV).Phoenix Core Services with BMT (found in the Plugin section of SageTV).Latest SageTV 7 beta, which can be found here.Let see what Team Diamond (JOrton, PluckyHD, EvilPenguin, and jusjoken) has in store for SageTV.

However, with the release of the just announced Diamond 3.0 hopefully things are about to change. To date though I must admit I have been somewhat disappointed as the only real UI enhancement I have come across is Sage MyMovies. There seemed to be a lot of promise with the new Plugin architecture, several projects such as Ortus and Phoenix, and the ability to port over XBMC skins. One of the hopes I had when SageTV 7 was released was to finally see SageTV come out of the Dark Ages when it came to its UI.
